Investigating Cosmolex, but it doesn't appear to have document assembly--templates. Am I wrong? If I'm correct, any suggestions for how to do document assembly with Cosmolex (e.g., compatible programs or add-ons)?

Not yet it doesn't. I say yet because CosmoLex is very much still in development and releasing fairly major updates every few months. I've got to think document assembly is coming.

In the meantime, I don't think there's an easy way to do document assembly with CosmoLex, because it doesn't sync contacts with Office 365 or Google Apps, and there are no integrations directly with document management software, as far as I know.

  • Catherine - Ability to create custom fields (and custom pages) and then document merging/assembly is very high on our list. We expect to able to deploy one team to it in about 3 month time.

Thanks to Sam for the comment and to Cosmolex for the update.

  • CosmoLex just announced a major product update which includes automatic bank data feed. You can now link your bank account to CosmoLex for the purposes of importing or reconciling your credit, operating and/or trust transactions on a daily basis.

We are able to connect with over 2000 financial institutions for the purpose of bank transaction downloads. 1st bank account data feed is included at no additional charge. Each additional feed is at $2.50 per month per user.

Per user with permission to reconcile the accounts, or per user, period? In other words, if a firm has 10 users but only one with accounting permissions, does it have to spend an extra $2.50/month or $25/month in order to add two bank feeds?

  • per user per month. In the example you cited, a 10 user firm's total CosmoLex subscription cost is $490/month (annual billing). With 2 bank feeds, it would change to $490+$25 = $515 per month.

Bank feed adds value at many levels and not just for the purpose of reconciliation. For example, an incoming credit card charge may be related to client cost and user may quickly link it with the matter and thus capture in the monthly billing. This would have nothing to do with bank reconciliation.

    Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification!

Okay, one more question because I like to know how things work. I'm inferring from the fact that you charge for bank feeds (and from the fact that banks charge for everything) that you have to pay the bank for access. And since you charge a per-user fee, the price you pay is probably related to the volume of transactions in the bank feed, which will logically be higher for firms with more users. Do I have that right?

  • Sam - Good question. There is no 1:1 relationship between our cost structure and our fee structure. That would have made pricing complex. We also allow free bank feed account connection during the 30-day trial period so users can test everything prior to becoming a paying CosmoLex subscriber.
