As I'm getting my new practice up and running, I know that I need to get out in the community and meet more attorneys...for both knowledge and possible referral sources (and because I like people).
My interpersonal style works much better in one-on-one settings than networking events. So I am trying to figure out how I start determining who I want to get to know and what the proper process is for getting in touch with them, if any. Is just calling a person out of the blue a good idea?
I'm also wondering if the people I meet should be those who specialize in my same area of law, or if I'm looking for referrals if I should be looking for people in other areas. I expect the answer is "both," but I would like to hear from others who have more experience in this situation.
